Ever wondered what Chiropractic
is all about? Commercial Drive Chiropractor, Dr. Chan has some answers for you.
Chiropractic is a non-invasive, natural therapy
that addresses structural imbalances in the body in order to relieve pain and promote health. These "structural
imbalances" can manifest themselves in a variety of ways but some common examples are; tightness in some muscles but
not others, painful joints or numbness down one arm while the other is fine.
The common thread is that
we start noticing these problems because our nervous system is telling us something"s wrong. As sensitive tissue, such
as nerves are irritated, we experience pain, difficulties moving, or even a general sense of discomfort. The goal of Chiropractic
is to identify the problem and to treat the source of irritation so the patient can experience relief naturally. But that's
not all, Dr. Chan firmly believes that by teaching and promoting customized stretches and exercises to all of his patients,
they stand a better chance of preventing future problems from even occuring.
Is Chiropractic Safe?
Yes.
Chiropractic is a very safe and non-invasive form of therapy. Chiropractic in it's traditional form has been practiced for
over a century in the west. It is a widely accepted and utilized form of therapy and it's popularity is only increasing. Chiropractic
is very compatible with a natural, healthy lifestyle and is literally custom-made for people who are looking for pain relief
without the use of pharmaceutical drugs. Very seldom, there may be side effects due to treatment. Most often
these include; soreness, headaches, or localized tenderness. Other side effects should be discussed with your Chiropractor.
How Does Chiropractic Work?
Chiropractic
works by assisting in the body's natural ability to heal. Very often, a problem with the musculoskeletal system of the body
is accompanied by muscular tightness, inflammation, restricted motion and nerve irritation. The goal of Chiropractic treatment
is to address all of these areas, and more! By addressing these factors, Chiropractic helps to restore a "balance"
to the body so the patient can enjoy pain relief and return of function.
Just as the many moving parts in your car may need regular
care and tune ups, your body also works as an amazing, dynamic machine. Sadly though, many people pay more attention
to their cars as they allow their bodies to run down. How
Long Will it Take Until I Get Better? Understandably
everyone wants to know how long it will take to get better and be free of pain. Unfortunately, different people will experience
differing rates of recovery due to many other circumstances and factors. These factors could include activity/fitness level,
lifestyle, working conditions, stress, age etc. However, Dr. Chan
will discuss a customized treatment plan with each patient in order to get the most complete relief in the shortest amount
of time possible. In conjunction, Dr. Chan will also educate patients on the relationship between symptoms (ie.Pain) and function.
Many times we concern ourselves with relieving our immediate pain. Dr. Chan works
with patients to help them understand that pain is often the last, and most obvious, sign of a problem. With a prescription
for home care, Dr. Chan strives to help his patients find lasting solutions to their aches and discomfort. How
Much Does it Cost? The initial office visit consisting
of a detailed history, Physical and Orthopaedic exam, report of findings, a treatment plan, treatment and home exercise prescription
is $50. Subsequent visits are $40 ( Many third party Insurers such as Blue Cross, GreatWest Life, Sunlife etc. will cover
this expense completely or partially - Please check with your individual provider ) In addition, some people qualify for Premium Assistance under the Province's MSP plan.
If you do, the initial visit is only $10 and subsequent visits are $5 (Up to 10 visits per year). Please call the office to
see if you qualify for this program. Dr. Chan does not take x-rays in his office so there is never an extra cost for x-rays.

"I've been looking for a Chiropractor in the Commercial Drive area for a while. It was my massage
therapist who suggested I go see Dr. Chan. I'm glad I did because I have a young child and sometimes going all over town
for appointments is just not possible. I'd gladly recommend Dr. Chan to anyone!" - Teresa P.
